For my Junior Design class, my team and I decided to design and build a device that test the moister of the soil of a potted plant and notify the user when the moister dropped to a certain level. If the user did not water the plant within a certain time of the notification, the device would water the plant itself and then update the soil's moister to indicate that the moister level of the soil is within the accepted range to prevent over the user from over watering the plant.

my rule in this project was to design and build the electrical subsystem to power the device and its electrical components.

Equipment used:

  • 120v Ac to 12v Dc converter to step down the voltage from the power source and convert it to Dc voltage to power the system.

  • waterproof junction box to protect the wire junction from any water leakage.

  • 12v Dc to 5v Dc buck converter to supply power to microcontroller (Pico)

  • Relays to allow the Pico to control the water pump and solenoids.

  • Waterproof wire connectors to insulate wire terminals.
